How We Came To Be
Several years ago the founder of EME, Deanne Emmons, was travelling with a group to Peru. She had been taking classes in the traditions of Amazonian Shamanism from a woman in San Rafael, California. During those classes she had been taught 2 icaros, 2 spirit songs of plants, by her teacher, who had been taught herself these songs by her teacher in Peru. While on this trip, Deanne was taking a walk through the jungle with her teacher, Connie, and her teacher's teacher, the Shaman Don Antonio. During this walk they came upon one of the plants whose song Connie had taught to Deanne. Connie informed Antonio of this, and he asked Deanne to sing the song to him. As she did, as she sang the song which he had taught to Connie in Peru, which Connie had taught to her in California, back to him in Peru, his face lit up with the most beautiful smile. There was a very special circle completed in that moment- and the gift of a seed of an idea was placed in to Deanne's mind. Each traditional healer like Antonio is a vast library of knowledge. And there are few left in this world who contain such knowledge. As the world changes, one consequence of these changes is the loss of these amazing living libraries. There is no way any one person in this time can possibly learn all the knowledge contained in just one of these healers. So the question arises, how do we preserve some of the stories contained in these libraries? Deanne responded to this question by forming EME, to try to provide a way for as many people as possible to visit for a time with these wonderful people. So each visitor would have the opportunity to absorb some tiny little story into themselves, and into their lives, to help in the healing of the whole planet.

To take health care practitioners and other interested parties to varied locations around the world to learn about traditional healing practices directly from indigenous healers, in their context. We do this in order to broaden and open perspectives, and provide exploration into the natural worlds of healing. We seek to provide support both culturally and economically to preserve the ancient wisdom of these traditions. We aim to assist in changing the personal practices which lead to environmental devastation.
